CONSTRUCTION OF A PASSIVE HOUSING COMPLEX

This project was awarded at the Energy Mastering Awards 2017 as the first certified Passive Building in Greece.
It consists of a complex of three single-family houses located in Agria, Volos.

The building was designed and constructed on a 404 m² plot, following the standards of the Passive House Institute. The complex includes three independent residences, each featuring a playroom, mechanical room, and enclosed parking area in the basement; a living room, kitchen, dining area, and W.C. on the ground floor; and three bedrooms with a bathroom on the upper floor.

The building is equipped with a mechanical ventilation system, air-conditioning units (COP = 4 & EER = 4), and solar thermal systems.

Passive buildings, through their specialized construction, eliminate the cost of heating and cooling while offering their occupants an exceptional quality of life.

The five fundamental principles of Passive Building design are:

  • the creation of a strong and continuous thermal insulation envelope,
  • the proper installation of high-quality external frames and openings,
  • the elimination of thermal bridges in the construction,
  • the assurance of an airtight and well-insulated building envelope, and
  • the installation of a central ventilation system with heat recovery.
